Asphalt Patching

Broken areas of asphalt or concrete can be fixed without the major expense of resurfacing the entire lot/drive. These areas should be repaired before causing further damage and expenses.

With asphalt patching, there are several options to choose from depending on the severity of the problem. In most cases, a square edge around the failed pavement would be saw cut and removed. New asphalt would be installed usually between 2 and 3 inches. If the problem lies in the sub base, it will also be removed and replaced. A standard sub-base would be 6 to 12 inches of base stone depending on the nature of the parking lot/driveway. In some cases, a soil cement stabilization process can be used. This includes milling/grinding up the asphalt 6 to 12 inches deep and adding Portland cement to help stabilize the sub base. Although this process is more expensive, it is very effective in patching asphalt pavement. In some less severe cases, a skin patch can fix the problem temporarily. This involves a thin layer of asphalt over the top of the failed area. This will be a cheap, quick fix and can sometimes last several years.
